“You carry so much love in your heart. Give some to yourself.”
In case you didn’t know, it’s Valentine’s Day today! A Hallmark created day to promote love and sell over-priced flowers and chocolates! I know a little cynical, but I have always believed that we don’t need a specific day to tell or show someone we love them.
Showing someone you love them is in the little everyday things, just as much as in the grand gestures – emptying the dishwasher, letting you sleep in, saying I love you.
And what about you? Do you show you love yourself through small acts of love? The last blog post was about kindness, and how we should extend our kindness to ourselves. This is the same with love. If our love does not include self love, it is incomplete. For many of us, loving ourselves is a life long work in progress. But this year is the year of self love and self care.
“Put yourself at the top of the to do list every single day, and the rest will fall in to place.”
Self care and self love is not selfish. It is essential to a healthy lifestyle. As the saying goes, we cannot pour from an empty cup – when we give everything to everyone else, there is nothing left for ourselves. Self care is simply an act to support yourself either physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. Self care is my intention for the year, so I created a list of simple ways I like to take care of myself. How do you take time for yourself – do you even do it?
So this Valentine’s Day, make a promise to yourself to take a minimum of 10 minutes a day (to start), just for yourself. Read an article in a magazine you bought, but never picked up. Watch an episode of a favourite TV show. Meditate. Make a cup of tea (and drink it!) You may feel like you are being selfish, but in the long run, you will feel more and more life yourself. And when you give yourself more love, you have more to give.
